Jesse Marunde passed away yesterday as confirmed by his mother:

The site is currently down due to traffic.
No details are released at this point, but the strongman grapevine said it happened while training. Although I did not know Jesse, I am personally saddened by his passing as he was one of our own.
In times like this when we are reminded of just how dangerous this sport can be, and the toll it takes on the body; you should be proud that you compete and do what very few others are willing to attempt.
Do not draw your own conclusions and say stupid things about what caused his death.

To think someone in his prime can be taken so quickly! I am new to the sport, but my thoughts go out to his family. I have heard many great things about Jesse and it appears the world has lost a great guy.

I only have a passing interest in the strongman sport, but even from my casual observations, Jesse stood out. He was ridiculously powerful and yet was a humble man. He possessed a radiant energy that glowed from his core. And as one video clip (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ai6Hd748S_c) demonstrates, he was a child at heart. It is sad to see a man of such determination and drive pass away, but he will be remembered. If each of us could apply but one-tenth of the discipline he exhibited, we'd all be better off. May you rest in peace.
