Global Grip Challenge '07 - September 4, 2007

by Ben Hanson

There are many strength sports in the world today. Not only do you have weightlifting in the Olympics, strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding, and Highland games, you've also got those sports which are where strongman was 20 years ago. Grip competitions are one such fringe sport.

At the heart of the current grip movement are Jedd Johnson and the rest of the lads over at Diesel Crew. Through their efforts of putting on the Global Grip Challenge for the fourth year, they're doing more than their part in advancing the legitimacy of hand strength. Check out Jedd's write-up of the 4th Annual Global Grip Challenge to see what all of the fuss is about.

They're not just a bunch of vice-gripped freaks, either. If you've ever had a weird idea for a lift that you don't think could possibly exist, they've probably got a vid of it. Their vids and training methods are what got me first interested in strongman. For that, I owe them a huge thanks.
